CID, a popular 90s television show, has returned with a new season and the audience is enthralled to see their favourite characters back on TV. The show was not only the longest-running but has many records over the years. In an interview, Shivaji Satam, Dayanand Shetty and Aditya Srivastava discussed the show’s popularity and how they set the Guinness World Record in 2004.
In the latest conversation with Pinkvilla, Shivaji Satam, Dayanand Shetty and Aditya Srivastava were asked about their reaction to making the record. Dayanand replied, saying it was in 2004 and Shivaji Satam added, “Iske peeche, everybody, not only the three of us; there were more than 100 people there when this particular episode was shot (it had many people associated, not just the three of them).” Dayanand Shetty mentioned it was about over 170.
Shivaji Satam mentioned, “We all have been part of setting an international record. And it’s not only that we are individually proud; we are proud of being Indians who have set a record. We are proud of this particular television media that we have set a record for the media and overall for India. There’s something that you always think about what have we done in life? It is one achievement for us; we have been part of a world record.”
Dayanand Shetty stated the credit goes to director B.P. Singh’s contributions. He said, “Humlog toh sirf actors the. Ye cheez jinhone conceive kiya hain, Singh sahab. Unhone socha hain ki humko kuch ayesa karna hain and 111 minutes, matlab almost 2 ghante ek cheez ko without cut karna, you need a cameraman. (We were just actors. This entire concept was conceived by Singh Sahab. He thought of doing something like this—111 minutes, almost 2 hours—to shoot something without a single cut. For that, you need a skilled cameraman). He added the actors stood at their spot but the camera persons carried the heavy equipment and shot the entire episode. He praised BP Singh, who came up with the idea of doing something so extraordinary, aiming to make a mark on the international stage with the longest single-shot sequence ever filmed. But, no one enquired about this feat twenty years ago.
The episode, titled The Inheritance from CID season 1, was filmed in one take on October 8, 2004, and aired on November 7, 2004. It lasted 111 minutes, with no jump cuts or slow motion and was directed by B.P. Singh.
