Flood drain works in Khammam by monsoon: Tummala

Khammam: Agriculture minister Tummala Nageswara Rao on Friday directed officials to ensure the completion of the ₹249-crore flood drain system in Khammam city before the onset of monsoon. The project aims to prevent the reoccurrence of floods that submerged several areas in the previous monsoon seasons.
The minister laid the foundation stone for the ₹3.95-crore expansion of the Ballepally-Balapet road and emphasised maintaining high-quality standards for all development works. He instructed officials to regularly inspect and monitor the quality of ongoing projects.
Rao also announced ₹8 crore for the construction of a slaughterhouse in Khammam, with work set to begin once land is identified. Additionally, city parks will be developed with a budget of ₹1 crore. He was confident that Khammam would see major transformation in the next six months with these development initiatives, including improved road connectivity to thandas and remote areas in the district.
The minister further stated that 30 irrigation tanks would be filled through the Manchukonda Lift Irrigation Scheme by Ugadi, ensuring better water availability for agricultural needs.
