In His Joint Address, Trump Touts Common Sense Government, Which Is What Small Business Needs Right Now

One of the hallmarks of President Donald J. Trump’s joint address to Congress Tuesday evening was his statement that he “believes government should work for the people” and that government policies should “reflect the longstanding values of the Americans it serves.” Here are some of the ways he has sought to do this:

  • Designating English as the official language of the United States.
  • Demolishing DEI initiatives and restoring merit-based hiring practices.
  • Throwing out Biden-era lawsuits against police and fire departments that were portrayed as racist for using written tests, physical exams, and credit checks in their hiring processes.
  • Ending the weaponization of government against American citizens and tasking the Department of Justice to root out politically motivated lawfare that occurred under the Biden administration.
  • An end to censorship of Americans by the federal government.

But one of the larger aims that affect the lives of so many small businesses, entrepreneurs, and independent professionals is the regulatory space. Along with an examination of all regulations to see if they infringe on Second Amendment rights, Trump signed an executive order on January 31 to eliminate 10 regulations for every new regulation issued.

This was a policy point Trump set in motion during his first term, and along with America’s prosperity, he is bringing it back.

In his first term, President Trump asked the agencies to eliminate two regulations for each one new regulation issued.  Not only was this 2-for-1 goal achieved, the first Trump Administration eliminated five and a half regulations for everyone new regulation issued.

This Executive Order builds on President Trump’s previous success to improve daily lives of the American people by reducing unnecessary, burdensome, and costly Federal regulations.

Here’s the rub, and as a man who has created businesses of his own, Trump gets it. Burdensome regulation cripples everyone.

Overregulation stops American entrepreneurship, crushes small business, reduces consumer choice, discourages innovation, and infringes on the liberties of American citizens.

It also contributes to the high cost of living, including by driving up energy prices.

As RedState reported on Monday, the cessation of enforcement on the Corporate Transparency Act Beneficial Owner Information (CTA BOI) was a big first step in the right direction of freeing small businesses from this unjust law and reflects the new direction the administration plans to take.

As Trump said, “The nation founded by pioneers and risk takers now drowns under millions and millions of pages of regulations and debt.” Cutting regulation will work to return the nation back to those pioneers, risk-takers, and everyday citizens to unleash them in their pursuit of a new golden age for their businesses, their families, and their world.

Making Common Sense Great Again. We’re here for it.
