BBC Radio 2 presenter Rylan Clark said that he started questioning himself after receiving an unusual text from his mum recently.

Taking to his usual Saturday afternoon spot on BBC Radio 2 yesterday, Rylan, recalled how he was left confused by a text he received from his mum while live on air. Sharing her peculiar message, the 36-year-old said: “My mum’s just texted me, (saying) ‘how old are you this year? 36 or 37?'”

And, after his mum’s forgetfulness, he claimed that his memory was also put to the test as he soon started to question his own age. He explained: “I started doubting myself then, I was like ‘I’m 37’ and then I was like ‘am I?’ I just had to Google myself.”

Meanwhile, speaking on his weekly Radio 2 show a couple of weeks ago, the Celebrity Gogglebox favourite shared how he was pleased to spot his BBC co-star Liza Tarbuck in the studio: “I was thinking last night, I was very, very tired, and I was like ‘at least I get to cuddle Liza tomorrow, she’ll give me a little cuddle’.”

He added: “I’m going to chat to you later but I had to just say hello to you now.”

Away from sharing insights into his personal life on his BBC Radio 2 show, Rylan’s career continues to go from strength to strength, after first becoming a household name thanks to his time on X-Factor in 2012, before then going on to win Celebrity Big Brother a year later.

However, more recently, Rylan has moved away from reality TV somewhat, in order to pursue a career in hosting, landing roles on some of the biggest shows in the last 10 years, most notably making up part of the presenting team on ITV’s This Morning.

And, in 2019, he became part of the cast of celebs to appear in Celebrity Gogglebox on Channel 4 alongside his mum, Linda Clark.

But it was a year earlier that he landed his role hosting BBC Radio 2 and was given his self-named show, Rylan On Saturday, replacing Zoe Ball who had moved to an earlier slot.

Speaking about his delight at joining the station back in 2018, he said: “I’m so excited and honoured to be joining the BBC Radio 2 family. I can’t wait to get started and look forward to being in the studio from the New Year.”

He added: “After stepping in for the amazing Zoe Ball over the summer, working with her fantastic team, I’m thrilled that I’ll be working with them again to fill listeners’ Saturday afternoons with fun, great music and a lot of laughter.”
